Fangcang hospital (Chinese : 方舱医院; pinyin : fāngcāng yīyuàn; lit. 'square-cabin hospital') [ 1 ] refers to a kind of makeshift/ mobile field hospitals used during the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
However, the implementation of the intelligent Fangcang shelter hospital system remains in the exploratory stage. Herein, this paper aims to obtain experience in the development and utilization of an intelligent system in a Fangcang shelter hospital.
Wang Chen, a top respiratory specialist in China who also works on the front lines, said in an interview last month that fangcang — while perhaps not perfect — are at least a realistic solution. “The shelter hospitals can admit a large number of patients and get them treated and quarantined, which is key,” Wang said.
The fifth essential function that Fangcang shelter hospitals provide is essential living and social engagement. Functions of essential living, including shelter, accommodation, food, sanitation, and hygiene, are of course necessary to care for the large numbers of people in the hospitals.
The concept of "Fangcang" was borrowed from military field hospitals, [ 14 ] which was initially introduced by the United States military, who has been making makeshift structures since the 1950s. [ 15 ] Outside of the context of the outbreak, makeshift or Fangcang structures can refer to many kinds of modular structures.
“Unlike traditional quarantine hospitals, fangcang are more like treatment units,” Liu told Sixth Tone. Fangcang should be seen as supplementary facilities to hospitals, and should be integrated with nearby medical resources, as has largely been the case, according to Liu.
