Welcome to the fifth annual EirGrid and ESB Networks’ Electricity Transmission Performance Report. This report seeks to provide customers, industry and stakeholders with clear and accessible reporting on our operation, development and maintenance of the transmission system. 2021 was the first year of Price Review Five (PR5).
ESB is committed to playing a significant role in making this a reality, both through batteries and the other intra-day storage and, over the longer-term, clean energy storage technologies such as hydrogen. Empowered Customers: Empower, enable and support customers and communities to achieve net zero.
Resilient Infrastructure: Resilient electricity networks are absolutely central to climate action. ESB will continue to invest in maintaining electricity resilience, an important and challenging factor in the energy transition, and in system services, which will be required to help the system operators cope with high volumes of renewables.
We also have a specialist business unit – ESB Smart Energy Services – that works with large energy users to dramatically reduce energy costs, carbon emissions and consumption. ESB has established a €75m fund to help such businesses with the up-front capital for energy-saving projects. Together, we can all make a difference.
2023 has been a busy year for ESB as we pursue ambitious decarbonisation goals, investing more than €1 billion in the critical infrastructure required to help decarbonise electricity, to improve the resilience of the electricity network, and to empower customers to use clean electricity for heat and transport.
ESB Networks has proudly worked with customers, communities and stakeholders across Ireland for over 90 years. We value the trust that has developed with all of our customers and as the use of the transmission network continues to evolve, we understand the importance of keeping our customers at the centre of everything we do.
