Anion exchange membranes (AEMs) represent the key components in AEM fuel cell devices that generate clean power from H 2 /O 2 by using earth-abundant electrocatalysts.
Energy management systems (EMS) normally face microgrid problems by the insufficiency of energy production sources. It aims to define the optimal usage of DG to feed the electrical loads . EMS operates in centralized and decentralized modes.
Next-generation AEMs should be engineered to remain chemically and mechanically robust under CO 2 electrolysis conditions. Most membrane electrode assemblies for zero-gap CO 2 RR devices are fabricated by manually compressing a hydrated membrane between a cathode and anode.
A significant research development has been focused on the material design and operability of AEMs for fuel cells and various other electrochemical devices like water electrolyzers and batteries. In fuel cell devices, the critical parameters for AEMs are their OH − ion conductivity and alkaline stability over a long period of time.
Reyasudin et al. devised the EMS (Energy Management System) model for the University of Kuala Lumpur, British Malaysian microgrid, which aims to reduce the operational cost of the microgrid. Energy storage systems (ESS) and Photovoltaic (PV) are used in the microgrid to meet the campus load demand.
Because AEMs typically require a high IEC (for example, >2.0 meq g −1) to achieve sufficient anion conductivity, they tend to swell and are mechanically weaker than Nafion (that is, AEMs exhibit lower tensile strength and elongation at break).
