Paired with heat pumps, these systems can deliver clean heating and cooling to millions of households, offering a more energy-efficient and sustainable alternative to fossil fuel heating.

How can waste heat from air conditioning be reduced?

Waste heat from air conditioning can be reduced through the use of passive cooling building design and zero-energy methods like evaporative cooling and passive daytime radiative cooling, the latter of which sends waste heat directly to outer space through the infrared window.

Can a cogeneration system reduce waste of the by-product heat?

Waste of the by-product heat is reduced if a cogeneration system is used, also known as a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system. Limitations to the use of by-product heat arise primarily from the engineering cost/efficiency challenges in effectively exploiting small temperature differences to generate other forms of energy.

How much heat can OHP recover from a waste air stream?

The results indicate that OHP can recover up to 240 W of heat from the waste exhaust air stream, with a low-pressure drop of almost 62 Pa in the cold air stream. The heat transfer rate with 70% n-pentane is two times that of the evacuated OHP.
